Before someone asks, I'm in the process of reading it myself. I've read the New Testament, and I'm currently at 1 Samuel in the Old Testament.

Btw: The Bible is the #2 book for Atheists according to this informal internet poll!

I am a Christan. I know this is not meant to support my faith, but I agree with the message. People should read the fine print. There's a lot more to it once you get past the surface.

Good to hear. As a standalone picture, it doesn't go either way, just that you should go deeper.
I made it after discussing with a guy in another forum today who said (when I said that reading Levitcus was important) "What good would it do?"
I was dumbstruck.

Personally, I've read a fair share, and I think it gets more interesting. I've become more secure about what I think, but I have simultaneously gotten more respect for the writers and book. :)

Cool. :) Hm that's kind of strange that the guy would say that about Leviticus. Was he a Christian? He might have meant that since Christians don't live under the old covenant, they don't need to read about it, but I think it can still be valuable as history. Kinda shows how much better things are today.

Yeah, while I think that that the old/new covenant thing is rooted more in Paul than in Jesus, that would be one argument. But he practically dismissed the entire Old Testament, as sort of Jewish folklore of no immediate interest to Christians.
As you say, while one can argue that it is not binding law for Christians, it's still important history.
